MCP presents A British Coronation: Works by Handel, Vaughan Williams and Parry for one night only at the beautiful Grace Cathedral in San Francisco! The Masterwork Festival Chorus, led by guest conductor Joshua Habermann will present a wonderful selection of choral works by Handel, Vaughan Williams, and Parry, some of Britain’s finest composers to this day.
Joshua Habermann is in his eighth season as Music Director of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale. He has led honor choirs and choral festivals in North and Latin America, Europe and Asia. As a tenor he has performed with the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus and Conspirare. Recording credits include three projects with Conspirare: Through the Green Fuse, Grammy-nominated Requiem, and Grammy-nominated Threshold of Night. In 2011, Joshua Habermann was named director of the Dallas Symphony Chorus, the official vocal ensemble of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
Guest Conductor Julie Yu will lead the National Festival Chorus in an array of choral works including Mozart’s “Veni Sancte Spiritus”, Brumfield’s “No Time”, Syler’s “Dear Sarah”, and more. The National Children’s Festival Chorus, conducted by Susan McMane, will also perform a diverse collection of choral music including Mendelssohn’s “Laudate Pueri Dominum”, Vivaldi’s “Laudamus te”, Paulus’ “Daybreak”, and more.
Dr. Julie Yu is Co-Director of Choral Studies at Kansas State University where she oversees and conducts seven choral ensembles. Her choirs have performed in Carnegie Hall, Hawaii, the National Cathedral in Washington D.C., as well as in Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Ireland, and Italy.
Dr. Susan McMane is the founding director of the Young Women’s Choral Projects of San Francisco. She has taken her choirs to important venues including the steps of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. for the first inauguration ceremony of President Barack Obama in 2009, and to numerous world stages. Dr. McMane has won many honors including three Grammy Awards with the San Francisco Symphony, and the 2007 “Symphony of Excellence Arts Award” from the Pacific Musical Society.
